Fishers Youth Assistance Program Celebrates Successful 2024 Career Development Program
Fishers, IN – Fishers Youth Assistance Program (FYAP) proudly concluded its third annual Career Development program, aimed at empowering high school students with practical skills and exposure to local career opportunities. This year, 18 students, ranging from freshmen to seniors, participated in the program, which focused on introducing them to career paths that do not necessarily require a traditional four-year degree. Through hands-on learning and direct engagement with local businesses, the program provided students with the tools to explore alternative career options, build their resumes, and connect with job opportunities in Hamilton County.
During the program, students toured a wide array of industries, including construction, automotive, and electrical companies, as well as local government facilities like the county building, sheriff’s department, and Fishers fire and police stations. Special guest speakers, including military personnel and a retired Hollywood producer, shared professional insights with the students. The partnership with Ivy Tech also played a pivotal role in helping students complete career strength assessments and discover the many benefits of community college programs.
One of the most impactful aspects of this year’s program was that 90% of the participants had never held a job or created a resume prior to joining. By the end of the program, many students submitted resumes and job applications, demonstrating a newfound confidence in their career readiness. “It was heartwarming to see these students gain the skills and assurance needed to pursue their first jobs and career paths,” said a FYAP Program Director. FYAP looks forward to expanding this initiative in the future, equipping more students with the tools to succeed and thrive in today’s workforce.
