Paws to Read Program a Tutoring Initiative Success for FYAP
One of the standout programs of FYAP’s tutoring initiative is the Paws to Read program, now in its fourth year. This innovative program aims to enhance the literacy skills of children through the help of registered therapy teams. This year, Paws to Read is being offered at New Britton Elementary and Deer Creek Elementary schools, providing support to 16 students.
Six community members volunteer to assist with the program. Additionally, FYAP Board Member Cathy Worrall and her therapy dog, Bailey, have joined as a therapy team this year. Cathy says it is magical to see the students reading with Bailey. The students’ time with Bailey creates a safe, non-judgmental environment where the students not only build their reading skills but confidence and belief in themselves.
Through the Paws to Read program, FYAP continues to make a positive impact on HSE students, creating supportive and engaging learning experiences. By leveraging the benefits of therapy animals, Paws to Read helps students gain confidence and develop a passion for reading, contributing to a brighter future for the children of Fishers.
